Lewes, How Does Your Garden Grow?
23rd Annual Lewes Garden Tour – Saturday, June 15
Enjoy the “hidden gardens” of Lewes this Saturday, June 15! The Lewes Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau hosts its 23rd Lewes Garden Tour, which always showcases the creativity and serenity of Lewes’ most visionary (or naturally gifted!) green thumbs.
The tour is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the tour, and are available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce visitor center in the Fisher-Martin House (located next to the Zwaanendael Museum). For more information on the tour or to order the tickets in advance, call 302-645-8073. Also visit www.leweschamber.com.
As the Lewes Chamber’s website explains, 23 years ago, the late Mary Vessels, her brother Jack and sister-in-law Mickey envisioned sharing the marvelous “hidden gardens” of Lewes with neighbors and visitors. Originally named the Zwaanendael Heritage Garden Tour, it took place on June 23, 1990.
Now the Annual Lewes Garden Tour, this year’s event features seven private gardens; five of which are walkable from Zwaanendael Park, two of which are on the Lewes Beach side of the Canal.
An exciting addition this year is Lewes’ newest public garden: The Children’s Learning Garden next to the library. The volunteer organization Lewes in Bloom created the garden as a children’s outreach initiative – and it’s really growing fast!
A Garden Market will be open in Zwaanendael Park where more than 40 vendors will sell garden related items during the tour (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.). Artists will be painting in the tour gardens, and tour-goers can enjoy beverages and lunch. During the hours of the tour, free shuttle service through Prudential Gallo, REALTORS, is available for ticket holders.
Take a day for yourself and discover the secret gardens of Lewes!
