Welcome Back - We hope you're hungry!

Your favorite vacation destination keeps getting better...

Welcome Back - We hope you

Summer is here, finally! July 4 always feels like the official kick-off to the season. Locals are in our summer groove, visiting our favorite Farmer's Markets and just as excited as visitors to get back to our favorite restaurants.

Visitors to coastal Delaware return to nostalgic favorites that really make summer complete (think Grotto's, Nicola's, Louie's, Striper Bites, Irish Eyes...); the list is endless and we could never capture them all. But luckily for both locals and visitors, we have an expanding list of restaurants to add to our rotation.

Find your new favorite!

And feel free to tell us what we've missed! You can get a 'live' glimpse at a lot of these great venues on Coastal Cusine, of which The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group is a sponsor.

You can't make a list like this without another restaurant opening the moment it's published!

Agave - Popular and busy Mexican restaurant on Second Street in Lewes has expanded!

Big Chill Beach Club at Indian River Inlet - Deserving of its own article, this epic new venue is ON the beach at Delaware Seashore State Park. Don't miss sunset.

Blue Coast - SoDel Concepts brings the popular Bethany Beach concept to Rehoboth Beach - adjacent to another new offering, Fresh Market - serving fresh, beautifully prepared seafood. Just opened!

Blue Hen - Brand new offering in-town Rehoboth on Wilmington Avenue from the Henlopen City Oyster House owners. Getting rave reviews!

Dogfish Head Brew Pub - (and its next-door neighbor Chesapeake & Maine) have transformed northern Rehoboth Avenue into a world-class dining and live music destination. Its founder, Sam, is now a prestigious James Beard Award Winner, too! Gorgeous design.

Egg - Enjoy fresh, delicious, homemade fare - even a burger for breakfast! Located on Rehoboth Avenue as you head into town (formerly McQuay's market).

Fork & Flask at Nage - Popular Nage is reinvented and refreshed in this on-trend venue with a focus on local ingredients, great food, even greater company, and signature cocktails.

Gilligan's - Beautiful, classic waterfront dining in Lewes has a fresh vibe and gorgeous renovation. Best seat in Lewes on the canal!

Heirloom - Fabulous house-made specialties, just celebrated one-year anniversary with a brand new patio!

Indigo - "Finally!" is the reaction of many locals to authentic Indian cuisine on Rehoboth Avenue (check out Coastal Cuisine's visit!)

Kaisey's Delights - Popular sweet treats, breakfast sandwiches and coffee from Rehoboth fame are now open at Wescoats Corner in Lewes - with a drive-thru!

Lefty's Alley & Eats - WOW. Brand new entertainment center delivers bowling, arcade, laser tag - and award-winning dining! Not your grandpa's bowling alley!

La Fable - Lovely French cafe newly opened on Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth.

Olive & Oats - Azafran is back in Downtown Lewes! Taking over the space behind King's Ice Cream, the charming space is now home to coffees, baked oatmeal, lunch salads and other cafe fare.

Pig & Publican - Great new addition on Lewes Beach! They opened this winter with a fun bar and great food!

Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli - The popular OC deli go-to is now open in a brand new building on Route 1, across from a brand new Royal Farms, too! Authentic corned beef, knishes, salads, desserts, and more!

Starbucks DRIVE-THRU! (and at Acme now, too) - self-explanatory, especially if you have kids in the car and just need your coffee!

The Vineyard Wine Bar - Brand new offering on Wilmington Avenue (formerly Espuma). Owners opened one in Havre de Grace, MD and decided to bring one to their favorite vacation destination!

Twice Baked - Dewey bakery adds another location in former Route 1 Starbucks location, next to Grandpa Mac, and aptly names it "Twice Baked!"

Waves Car Wash in Lewes - Lewes got its own car wash, and the customer service is awesome. It's not a restaurant, but worth the mention!

And if you need to work off sampling all of these new dining options:

Built - now you can get even more 'built' with Joy's Spin classes at the Five Points location!

RISE - new location on Route 1, formerly in Lewes: RISE transformed the warehouse by the Rehoboth Fire Station into an indoor fitness paradise - complete with rock wall!

SeaCycle - Popular SeaBarre Fitness added a separate cycling studio to feel even more burn!

Stay tuned...Coming in the Fall:

  • Fin's Big Oyster Brewery (across from Mr. P's)
  • Station on Kings
  • Iron Hill Brewery
  • ... many more!

Bon appetit!

If you’re from Delaware, you know we’re “The First State” for many reasons. There's No Place Like a Beach Home for the Holidays

December at the beach is definitely not a time to slow down! The calendar is full of fun, festive events and it’s still a great time to walk around downtown shops and restaurants, walk the boardwalk and the beaches - even surf with the right gear!

Just this weekend alone in Downtown Historic Lewes:

Thursday, December 3

SHOP, DRINK & BE MERRY! Merchants Hospitality Night in commercial district, with live music on Second Street. Always lots of good cheer and fun. 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Saturday, December 5

  • TOUR! Annual Lewes Historical Society House Tour (get your tickets first!) – 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

One of our listings, 219 Grey Plover Court, The Historic Clare House, is on the tour!

  • OPEN HOUSE! Angler’s Nest, new community of single family homes on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

  • PARADE! Old Fashioned Christmas Parade (with a special guest at the end!) 5 p.m.

  • SING! Caroling and Tree Lighting in Zwaanendael Park

And Santa moves back into Second Street next week!

For these and so many other reasons, many seasonal residents and home owners have made celebrating holidays at the beach a tradition.

And why not? What’s better than walking the beach and getting fresh air on the water, or taking a bike ride on the trail, before or after a celebration with family and friends? Not much! Even better consider a home that's steps to the sand!  Lewes Beach has great opportunities right now.

The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group can connect you to ocean, bay or lake/pond front properties all along Delaware’s beaches. Holidays at the beach are a breath of fresh air!

Celebrate Our Independence!

July 4th Weekend Fun at the Beach

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in Lewes!

Delaware is “The First State” for many reasons. As all Delaware history students know, it was literally ‘first’ to ratify the Constitution.  We have a rich history throughout our state – from Sussex up to New Castle County.

Delaware is always first for celebrating Independence Day.  History is written every year as Delaware’s beaches continue to top themselves, year over year, with amazing July 4th celebrations.

No matter where you are at the Delaware Beaches, you’ll find out that we know how to throw a birthday party! If you are in Lewes for July 4, you will get swept up in truly the most classic Norman Rockwell portrayal of what it means to be an American for our nation’s Independence Day.  If it sounds too good to be true, it is – but so is Delaware!

Thank you to all of our military veterans – from Delaware and throughout the nation – for securing our “life, liberty and pursuit of happiness” year-round.

Coastal Concerts: Culture at the Beach

Maybe you remember the TV show “Green Acres” (at least I hope so, or I feel way too old)?  Of course, city-lover Eva Gabor marries country-lover Eddie Albert and has to give up her sophisticated lifestyle – comedy and adventure follow.  As exciting and welcome a move to the beach is, sometimes there’s a bit of a Green Acres transition.  It’s an extreme example, but if you have lived in the city all your life, it may feel that way from time to time.

Often the transitional issues are really about moving from work to leisure.  As almost all retired people I know say, however, they are busier in retirement than in their “working” lives.  Plus today, there are many variations on retirement.

Whether or not you are making the retirement transition, any move to the beach can be a transition from urban life.  My clients who move from metropolitan areas welcome the slower pace (they don’t call us “Slower Lower Delaware” for nothing!).  Walking the beach or your neighborhood in the morning, actually seeing a full, dark night sky at night, and getting away from beltway/highway traffic are no-brainers.  The first months after a move are the honeymoon.

But what if you are used to having theater, fine dining, museums and culture a subway ride away?  Don’t despair. From Milton and Lewes to Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany, our restaurants can compete with any city’s menu.  Culture offerings are expanding, too.  The Rehoboth Jazz Festival always attracts renowned musicians, and we have many home-grown favorites.  The Rehoboth Beach Film Festival screens a great selection of international films.  Organizations like Coastal Concerts and Clear Space Productions bring fantastic events to our region.

A Note about Coastal Concerts

I am proud to say the Prudential Gallo - Touch of Italy Foundation, a group formed in 2010 to bring world-class performers to Sussex County and support local organizations in need, has supported Coastal Concerts for the enrichment music brings to our community.  The group’s mission is to promote classical music appreciation in central Delmarva through live concerts, outreach, and educational activities

Take advantage of and enjoy the group’s mission – and its 15th Season - worthy of “Park Avenue” and our beautiful, beach “countryside.”

  • November 16, 2013 - 2 p.m. – Brasil Guitar Duo
  • February 8, 2014 – 2 p.m. – Danish String Quartet
  • March 1, 2014 – 2 p.m. – Elena Urioste, Violinist
  • March 22, 2014 – 7 p.m. – C hing-Yun Hu, Pianist

Ages 10-18 Free; For ticketing and more information, visit www.coastalconcerts.org or call (888) 212-6458.

Concerts are held at Bethel UMC Hall, Fourth & Market Streets in downtown Lewes.

Living on the Cape's Shores

How do you want to spend your summer vacations?

There’s only one more week until Labor Day Weekend!  It may be hard to believe, but the best of summer is yet to come: September.

As all the kids go back to school for the question, “How did you spend your summer vacation,” maybe we should all ask ourselves the same thing.

What did you get to do this summer that you really enjoyed?  Did you get enough beach time, family time, and did your vacation home or rental set the right scene?  Delaware beaches have so many different activities, but some of the most action- and relaxation-packed venues are where the bay meets the ocean at Cape Henlopen.

We can’t live in Cape Henlopen State Park, but just steps away from the sprawling protected lands, bike/running paths, and Atlantic Ocean beaches is the Cape Shores community.  Cape Shores offers unparalleled amenities on Lewes Beach:

  • easy sandy beach access (most houses are either on the bay or just a few lots away)
  • fishing pier
  • community pool
  • tennis
  • proximity to downtown Historic Lewes attractions and restaurants (1.5 miles)

Its sunrise and sunset views are amazing, too.

There’s a lot more summer left to enjoy – and now is a beautiful time to explore find a location that makes the most of your summer expectations.

“How you spent your summer vacation” is up to you!

Consider these unique opportunities in Cape Shores! (Once you select one, just hit "back" on your browser to return to this page.)

Rehoboth Beach: One of “10 Great Coastal Boardwalks”

Coastal Living magazine (www.coastalliving.com) scours beach towns up and down both the east and west coasts of America looking for the best of the best.  It shouldn’t be a big surprise that Delaware’s beach towns often make the lists in the company of coastal towns from Maine, New York, the Carolinas, and Florida, to the west coast of California.  While we don’t rank for categories like “best fried artichokes” (found in Santa Cruz, California), we know what makes us special!

It’s no surprise - we can take pride in knowing that Rehoboth Beach made the list of “10 Great Coastal Boardwalks.”  Further, the magazine’s list of “Best Boardwalk Bites” includes Bethany Beach for chocolate covered pretzels at Candy Kitchen and Rehoboth Beach for best calzones at Nicola Pizza!

North-end to south-end, Rehoboth’s boardwalk offers just about anything vacationers want and need. Locals are lucky to be able to visit the “best of the best” anytime!

If you are visiting Delaware’s beaches and want to make the move to year-round ‘coastal living,’ give The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group a call at (888) 770-6664 or visit us online at www.leeanngroup.com.  We would be happy to answer questions and show you opportunities for owning property at the beach!

Canalfront Property for All!

"Picnic in the Park" Returns Sunday, June 2!

There is no denying that much of the famous Historic Lewes charm flows from the picturesque Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.  Historically, the waterway was a central source of livelihood for early Lewes.  Now, the canal still provides unbeatable views of sunrises, sunsets, as well as increasing shopping and dining opportunities.  Canalfront property is a hot commodity.

The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group is happy to feature two premier properties currently on Pilottown Road:

314 Pilottown Road

344 Pilottown Road

(Please check out these links for more information!)

Over the past few years, since the creation of The Lewes Canalfront Park, all residents and visitors in Lewes share in some “canalfront property.”  Situated right next to the Lewes Little League Field, the park offers recreation and hosts great events throughout the year.  I have already made Soul Yoga in the Park on Sunday mornings part of my routine this summer – a peaceful way to enjoy the view.

This weekend, Sunday, June 2 from noon – 3 p.m., the Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park, with the help of local restaurants and business sponsors, are bringing back the popular Picnic in the Park!  Tickets are still available through the park’s website:www.lewescanalfrontpark.org/events.  Last year’s event sold out!

Adult entrance tickets are $10. Tickets for kids 12 & under are $5. Food and drink tickets are sold separately at the event; tickets are $2 each depending on the food/drink option.

The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group is proud to be among the great sponsors of the Picnic in the Park – other local businesses that love the opportunity to enjoy the best waterfront property in town!  Join us on Sunday.

First "Sign" of Summer

The Yard Sale Sign!

Everyone has a unique way of marking the start of summer at the beach.  Ice cream shops are opening, favorite restaurants start serving 7-days-a-week, pools open, Memorial Day comes with barbeques and picnics.  For the past 27 years, the REAL sign that summer is on is the Annual Memorial Weekend Jefferson Avenue Yard Sale! It’s true!

Of course, Jefferson Avenue is in good company.  Yard sales have already started; you’ll see signs this weekend throughout Lewes, Milton and Rehoboth. Typically they start at 8 a.m. and you may see early birds cruising past to try to catch a sneak peek.

Next weekend, Saturday, May 25, you will need to get up early to catch the undoubtedly great finds on Jefferson Avenue.

In addition, you can drive down Gills Neck Road, through Wolfe Pointe and Wolfe Runne, down DeVries Circle, and throughout Lewes (forgive me if I’ve missed anyone) to find your own treasures.

Even if “Antiques Roadshow” isn’t in your future, there’s always one gem among the yard sales that makes getting up early on a Saturday worthwhile.

And if you still don’t find it – head over to the Farmer’s Market!
